By Kooper, Lake Swag, Ringgold, Georgia. Prices checked October 26, 2026; the product pages are always the live source.

Our lake map ornament comes two ways: clear crystal glass with the lake engraved in frosted white ($29.99), or glossy white ceramic with the lake printed in black ($19.99). Both ship free in the US, your family name and year go on free, and we make them for more than 90 lakes, all on the lake ornaments page. Below: how the two compare, how to pick, and when to order for Christmas.

The glass one catches the tree lights. The engraving is on one side and shows through from the back, so the lake shows from either side of the branch. Leave the name blank and the ring says the lake's state.

The ceramic one is bolder: a black lake on a white disc that you can read from across the room. It's also the one to pick if you're buying several, one for each family that comes up every summer.

How to pick a lake ornament

Start with the lake they'd name first. Ask, or look at what's on their dock flag. Some lakes have names only locals use: Smith Mountain Lake people say SML.

Know how the shape reads small. At about 3 inches, three kinds of lake look different:

  • Long, narrow lakes print as a slim line. Lake George is about 32 miles long, so it's a thin sliver across the ornament.
  • Lakes with many arms print lacy. Lake Lanier has more than 690 miles of shoreline up the Chattahoochee and Chestatee, and every arm shows as fine detail.
  • Big, round lakes print bold. Lake Michigan and Lake Tahoe fill the ornament with one strong shape.

Two lakes in the family? Get two. They hang well side by side, and nobody has to pick.

A new lake house ornament for the first Christmas

The house closed this year, and the tree needs something from the place. Put the family name and the year on it, like "The Parkers · 2026", and it becomes the ornament that marks the first Christmas at the lake. It's free on both ornaments: type the words on the product page.

Other people it's for:

  • The lake neighbor, the dock builder or the in-laws. A small thank-you that isn't another bottle of wine.
  • A realtor's closing gift. One ornament of the buyer's lake, given at the closing table.
  • Someone who moved away. The lake they grew up on, back on the tree every December.
  • The grandparents' lake house. One for each family that comes up every summer.

Your name and year, free

Type a family name and a year on the ornament's page. On the glass one, it runs around the bottom of the ring: "The Smith Family · 2026". You can type your own short words instead, like two first names.

We email you a picture to check before we make it. Changes are free, and nothing is made until you say it looks right. Short wording reads best at this size.

If your lake isn't on the list

We'll draw it. Ask for a free mockup with your lake and the nearest town, and we email you a picture of your ornament within 24 hours. Nothing is made until you approve it. You can also order the glass or ceramic ornament for any lake right away; it's the same price, and we send the picture before we make it.

Who it isn't for

  • If you want a depth chart, this isn't one. It's the shoreline and the name, art rather than a map, and not for navigation.
  • If you want a carved wood or layered map, ours are engraved glass or printed ceramic.

Questions people ask

What's the difference between the glass and the ceramic lake ornament?

The glass one is clear crystal, 3 inches across with a faceted edge, and the lake is laser engraved in frosted white. It hangs on a red ribbon and is $29.99. The ceramic one is glossy white, about 2.76 inches across, with the lake printed in black on one side and a gold-toned string. It's $19.99. Both ship free in the US.

Can I put a name or a year on a lake Christmas ornament?

Yes, free. Type it on the ornament's page, like The Smith Family and 2026. On the glass ornament it runs around the bottom of the ring; leave it blank and it shows the state. We email you a picture to check before we make it, changes are free, and nothing is made until you say it looks right.

Which lakes do you make ornaments for?

More than 90 US lakes, from Lake Tahoe and Lake Michigan to Chickamauga Lake and Smith Mountain Lake, all on lakeswag.com/collections/lake-ornaments. If yours isn't there, we'll draw it: ask for a free mockup at lakeswag.com/pages/suggest-a-lake and we email it within 24 hours. Nothing is made until you approve it.

When should I order a lake ornament for Christmas?

Order the glass ornament by Friday, December 4, and the ceramic one by Monday, December 7, for Christmas. Each one is made to order and ships in 2 to 5 business days after you approve your picture, then takes 3 to 7 business days to arrive. You can order after those dates too; it just may arrive after Christmas.

Is the lake ornament a real map?

It's the lake's real shoreline, drawn from USGS shoreline data and smoothed so it reads at ornament size. It's art rather than a chart, so there are no depths or channel markers, and it isn't for navigation.
