The lake house gifts that last are the ones that get used at the house: a mug on the porch rail, towels on the dock, a puzzle for the rainy day. This list has 25, sorted by where they'll live. Seven are ours and are marked; each carries one lake's real shoreline and its name. The other 18 are things lake-house owners wear out, lose off the dock or keep meaning to buy.

How to pick a lake house gift

Start with the room, then the person. A host who rents the house out needs things guests can use and break. A grandparent who stays all summer wants something for the chair by the window.

Then ask which lake, and get the name right. Lake Lanier alone has more than 690 miles of shoreline, up both the Chattahoochee and the Chestatee. A gift with their lake's shape tells them you know where they go. Our lakes run from Lake Tahoe to Chickamauga Lake.

For the kitchen

  1. A lake mug or rocks glass (Lake Swag). The mug is glossy white ceramic, printed large on one side, 11 or 15 oz, microwave and dishwasher safe, from $19.99. The 10 oz rocks glass has the lake engraved, with a family name under it or around the top; it's $29.99, ships free, and two or more are $24.99 each. Lake mugs · Rocks glass.

  5. Coffee or honey from near their lake. Look for a roaster or beekeeper in a town on their shore. It came from their place, and it gets used up.

Questions people ask

What do you give someone who already has everything at the lake?

Give something that gets used up or worn out, like coasters, dock towels, a puzzle or coffee from a roaster near their lake. Or give them their own lake on a mug, a print or an ornament, so the gift is about their water and nobody else's.

Can I get a gift with a specific lake on it?

Lake Swag's lakes run from Lake Tahoe to Chickamauga Lake. Find yours on the lake finder at lakeswag.com/pages/lakes. If it isn't there, we'll draw it: ask for a free mockup at lakeswag.com/pages/suggest-a-lake and we email it within 24 hours. Ornaments take a name and year free, right on the product page.

How long does a Lake Swag gift take to arrive?

Most pieces are made in 2 to 5 business days after you order, and posters take 3 to 8. They then arrive 3 to 7 business days after they ship. Those are our print partners' estimates, not guarantees, and November and December can add time, so order gifts early.

What sizes do the lake mug, poster and blanket come in?

The mug comes in 11 or 15 oz. The poster comes in 11 x 14, 16 x 20, 18 x 24 and 24 x 36 inches, and every size fits a standard frame (frame not included). The blanket comes in 30 x 40, 50 x 60 and 60 x 80 inches, in navy or white.
