About Watts Bar Lake
Watts Bar Lake is the TVA reservoir on the Tennessee River about midway between Knoxville and Chattanooga, reaching 72.4 miles from Watts Bar Dam up to Fort Loudoun Dam. The dam was finished in January 1942 and supplied electricity for the war effort, including the Manhattan Project at nearby Oak Ridge. TVA lists 722 miles of shoreline and more than 39,090 acres, and the lake is popular for boating, fishing, swimming and camping.
