About Lake Glenville
Lake Glenville is in Jackson County, in the mountains of western North Carolina, on NC 107 north of Cashiers. At about 3,500 feet it is one of the highest lakes in the East, with about 1,450 acres of water and 26 miles of shoreline. Nantahala Power and Light, then owned by ALCOA, dammed the west fork of the Tuckasegee River at Onion Falls, starting in 1940 and finishing in 1941. From 1951 to 2002 the lake was officially Thorpe Reservoir, and many maps and locals still use that name. Rainbow trout, smallmouth bass and walleye are fished here, and kayaks and canoes are a common sight.
