About Lake Gaston
Lake Gaston sits on the North Carolina and Virginia line, across Halifax, Northampton and Warren counties in North Carolina and Brunswick and Mecklenburg counties in Virginia. It is roughly 35 miles long and covers over 20,000 acres, with about 350 miles of shoreline and a deepest point near 95 feet. Gaston Dam on the Roanoke River, built by Virginia Electric and Power Company, now Dominion, was completed in 1963, with Kerr Reservoir upstream and Roanoke Rapids Lake downstream. Littleton and Roanoke Rapids in North Carolina and Clarksville and South Hill in Virginia are the nearest towns, and the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission stocks the lake with striped bass.
