About Grand Lake o' the Cherokees

Grand Lake o’ the Cherokees is in the Ozark foothills of northeast Oklahoma, across Delaware, Ottawa, Mayes and Craig counties, and most people simply call it Grand Lake. Pensacola Dam, run by the Grand River Dam Authority, was completed in 1940 on the Grand River, also called the Neosho. Grove sits on the northeast shore and Bernice to the north, with Langley and Disney near the dam on the southeast and Monkey Island, a peninsula, in the middle. The average depth is about 36 feet, and the lake is consistently ranked among the top bass fishing lakes in the country. Each fall Grove holds a Pelican Festival for the migrating white pelicans.
