About Smith Mountain Lake
Smith Mountain Lake is a 20,600-acre reservoir on the Roanoke River near Roanoke, Virginia, in Bedford, Franklin and Pittsylvania counties. Appalachian Power built Smith Mountain Dam from 1960 to 1963, and the lake is the upper half of a pumped-storage system with Leesville Lake below. Virginia’s Department of Wildlife Resources calls it one of the state’s premier fisheries, with black bass and striped bass leading. Smith Mountain Lake State Park on the north shore has swimming, a boat ramp, cabins and trails. Our hand-finished design follows its real shoreline.
