About Skaneateles Lake

Skaneateles Lake lies in Onondaga, Cayuga and Cortland counties, New York, with the village of Skaneateles at its northern end. It is about 16 miles long, three quarters of a mile wide on average, and 315 feet deep at its deepest, covering roughly 8,700 acres. The water is clear and low in nutrients, and the City of Syracuse and the village draw drinking water from it without filtering, under a state health department waiver that depends on keeping the watershed protected.
