About Moosehead Lake
Moosehead Lake is Maine’s largest lake, in Piscataquis County, with the town of Greenville on its shore. The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife lake survey gives it 74,890 acres and a maximum depth of 246 feet, and Wikipedia puts it up to 40 miles long and 10 miles wide. The Kennebec River begins at its outlet, and Sugar Island is the largest of more than 80 islands. Mount Kineo State Park is reached by water, and Lily Bay State Park on the east shore has a swim beach and two boat launches.
