Leech Lake is in Cass County in north-central Minnesota, and the whole lake lies inside the Chippewa National Forest. At about 103,000 acres and 156 feet at its deepest, it is the third-largest lake in Minnesota. Walker, on Walker Bay, is the main town, with Whipholt, Onigum and Federal Dam also on the shore, and the Leech Lake River carries the water out toward the Mississippi at the dam at Federal Dam. Most of the lake lies within the Leech Lake Reservation. Walleye and muskie are the fish locals chase.
