About Lake Travis
Lake Travis is a Colorado River reservoir northwest of Austin, in Travis and Burnet counties. The Lower Colorado River Authority and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation built Mansfield Dam from 1937 to 1942 across a deep canyon at Marshall Ford. It is one of six Highland Lakes and the only one designed to hold back floodwaters, so its level can swing. Anglers fish for largemouth, Guadalupe, white and striped bass, plus catfish. Our design follows the real shoreline, Pedernales arm included, finished by hand into a clean outline.
