About Lake Norman
Lake Norman is a Catawba River lake about 20 minutes north of Charlotte, bordered by Catawba, Iredell, Lincoln and Mecklenburg counties. Duke Power built Cowans Ford Dam in the early 1960s, and the lake was completed in 1963, named for former Duke Power president Norman Atwater Cocke. North Carolina State Parks calls it the largest manmade lake within the state. Lake Norman State Park covers about 17 miles of its northern shoreline and has a mountain biking trail system. Our Lake Norman design is its real shoreline, finished by hand.
