About Lake Keowee
Lake Keowee is a Duke Energy reservoir in Oconee and Pickens counties, South Carolina, formed by dams on the Keowee and Little rivers, with its two halves joined by a canal. Keowee Hydro began operating in 1971, and the lake also supplies cooling water for the Oconee Nuclear Station. Duke lists about 17,700 acres and about 388 miles of shoreline. Bass fishing is among the most popular pastimes. Keowee means “place of the mulberry.” Our designs are drawn from its real shoreline and finished by hand, both halves included.
