Flathead Lake lies in northwest Montana between Polson at its south end and Kalispell to the north, fed and drained by the Flathead River. The Flathead Lake Biological Station calls it the largest natural freshwater lake by surface area in the western U.S. outside Alaska: 191.5 square miles, 27.3 miles long and 370.7 feet deep.
