Deep Creek Lake is in Garrett County, in Western Maryland, near McHenry. It was made in 1925, when the Youghiogheny Hydroelectric Company built the Deep Creek project, and the State of Maryland bought the lake in 2000; the Department of Natural Resources manages it now. It covers about 3,900 acres, with 65 miles of shoreline and up to 75 feet of water. Deep Creek Lake State Park, on the northeast side, has a mile of lakefront, a beach and a boat launch.
