About Chickamauga Lake
Chickamauga Lake is the TVA reservoir on the Tennessee River just north of Chattanooga, stretching 59 miles upriver from Chickamauga Dam to Watts Bar Dam, with the Hiwassee River flowing in. TVA built the dam between 1936 and 1940, and it helps protect Chattanooga from flooding. The lake has 784 miles of shoreline and about 36,240 acres of water and is popular for fishing, boating and swimming. It is named for the Chickamauga people, who lived along North Chickamauga Creek. Our hand-finished designs keep its real shoreline, Hiwassee arm included.
